Dallas Christian School requires that each high school student complete a minimum of 25 hours of community service for each year the student is enrolled in high school. The community service requirement for graduation is designed to help students learn servant leadership in the way of Christ. In community service we help those less fortunate than ourselves who “cannot pay us back” (Luke 14: 12-14).

Good examples of community service includes: serving at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, volunteering to help in a retirement or nursing home, building houses for Habitat for Humanity, volunteering at the local Salvation Army or Red Cross, or helping run programs that benefit non-profit organizations like cancer research. Students are also encouraged to research opportunities to volunteer for civil organizations (fire departments, police departments, and public libraries) and hospitals. Some cities have volunteer coordinators. Student may search local city websites to contact different departments to find out about service opportunities. The Volunteer Center of North Texas and Volunteen Nation are good resources for ongoing opportunities for service.
