DC History

Dallas Christian was founded in 1957 by members of several Church of Christ families. In the beginning years, the classes were held in various church buildings in East Dallas, Garland, and Pleasant Grove and served students in kindergarten and first grade only. Over the years, Christian Schools, Inc. (later changed to Dallas Christian School) grew to serve all students in grades K through 12.

 

By 1965, the school had kindergarten and elementary programs in Irving, North Dallas, Farmers Branch, Garland, Pleasant Grove, Oak Cliff and Casa Linda. These programs fed their graduating elementary students into the Pleasant Grove campus which served students through 12th grade and now had a permanent building.

 

By the early 1970’s, the Pleasant Grove student body had outgrown its campus. A property search led Christian Schools, Inc. to the picturesque 177-acre site at the intersection of Highway 67 and Barnes Bridge in Mesquite. Once the home of Christian College of the Southwest, this property already contained a perfectly serviceable academic and administrative building, a gym, a dormitory and the physical plant. The former dormitory was converted into the Elementary School, and in 1974 CSI made the move to their property.

 

New buildings and athletic facilities were soon added, and in 1981 the school officially changed its name to Dallas Christian School.

 

Dallas Christian School celebrated 50 years of service in 2007. The school continues to thrive and provide a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment for school aged children in grades K4 – 12th.
