Visual Arts
Starting in the seventh and eighth grades, the Dallas Christian visual arts program acquaints students with a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and pottery. These one-semester art classes focus on the basics of artistic expression, such as color theory and composition. Once students have this foundation, they are prepared to put what they have learned to work, expressing themselves on canvas or paper, or perhaps in clay or other 3D media. The students’ artwork is displayed on the Middle School campus as well as in various events throughout the year.
Art I
Art I is an introduction to art as a high school credit course. It offers the opportunity to develop a greater sensitivity to the visual world, its formal order, and its overall unity. Students develop a vocabulary for art and the skill to graphically express their own inner ideas and attitudes. Students are encouraged to enter at least one art competition.
Art II The subject of Art II expands the application of art elements and principals through ceramic techniques; the use of papers, cardboard, and fabrics in combination with charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, brushes, mixed media; various styles of paintings, including contemporary; the use of wire, clay, wood, plaster, and other materials. Students are required to enter at least 2 competitions and will have to complete several projects out of class.
